Of course the police must change. Politicians have been afraid to tackle the scandalous under performance of the UK police force. The force is bureaucratic, unaccountable and overpaid. Its pension arrangements are ridiculous. It lacks independent disciplinary procedures and allows corrupt or under-performing employees to remain in post.
It is time for politicians to tackle this last home of ‘Spanish practices” .
That will probably have to wait for a change of government. I cannot see Mr Bean being capable of making the changes.
